To understand the distinction between a standard recruiter and a high-level consultant, you have to look at the "quiet" work, the detail, the preparation, the thinking that happens when no one is watching.
In the technology recruitment industry, the highest performers aren't the loudest people in the room. They're the ones who do the most homework and leave the least mess.
When the Managing Director of a HealthTech company engaged BLACKROC in August 2025, they weren't looking for a database search. They were looking for a safe pair of hands.
At this level, "delivery" isn't about sending resumes. It's about protecting the relationship and ensuring the business can actually scale.
The assignment was led by Jordan Ricketts, and here is how that played out in practice.
The Architect's Intake
A typical recruiter hears "we need three people" and immediately begins high-volume outreach, sending generic LinkedIn messages to anyone with the right job title.
Jordan's approach was different.
Before engaging the market, he examined the white space between the roles. The mandate was to hire a Lead Engineer, a Senior UX Designer, and a third critical product hire.
Rather than treating these as three separate vacancies, Jordan assessed how they would function together inside a HealthTech environment.
He didn't just ask what the Lead Engineer needed to know technically. He asked how that person would communicate with the Senior UX Designer to ensure the product didn't just function, but felt intuitive for patients in a clinical setting.
He spent time understanding the specific pressures the HealthTech business was under post-funding. This meant he wasn't just "selling a job" to candidates; he was explaining a mission.
Because he was briefed by his MD, he treated the assignment with a level of intellectual ownership that you simply don't get from a high-volume agency.
The "Surgical" Search and Stewardship
The reputational damage in recruitment usually begins during the search phase.
Poor recruiters ghost candidates who aren't a fit, or push people into roles that don't suit them just to hit a monthly target. This burns the employer's brand in the tight-knit tech community. In Brisbane's tightly connected technology ecosystem, that behaviour compounds quickly.
Jordan operated with a No-Ghosting policy.
Every candidate he spoke to, whether suitable for this specific squad or not, left the conversation feeling they had experienced a genuine career consultation.
For the Lead Engineer role, no advert was posted.
Instead, Jordan leveraged his established network, identifying professionals who were not actively seeking change but were potentially under-stretched.
He did not "pitch" the role.
He engaged in peer-to-peer discussions around:
- Technical debt
- Clinical impact
- Product roadmap
- The realities of scaling
By being transparent about both the opportunity and the challenges, he built trust from the outset.
This approach protected the employer brand while attracting high-calibre passive talent, a critical differentiator in HealthTech recruitment.
Execution Without Friction
By late August, Jordan didn't present a pile of resumes. He presented a curated "Squad."
Before introductions were made, he had already done the heavy lifting:
- Technical vetting
- Cultural alignment
- Salary benchmarking
When these candidates met the HealthTech MD, it wasn't a "first date", it was a final alignment of vision.
Where many recruiters lose momentum is in leaving difficult conversations until the offer stage.
Jordan addressed friction early.
The Lead Engineer carried a complex three-month notice period. Rather than risking offer collapse, Jordan negotiated a phased transition plan that:
- Preserved professional relationships
- Maintained delivery timelines
- Prevented reputational fallout
In effect, onboarding began before resignation letters were signed.
The Long-Term Equity
Jordan's performance is underpinned by long-term thinking.
His reputation remains impeccable because he measures success in years, not months.
By November 2025, three months after the team commenced, they were already shipping code.
There was no buyer's remorse from the client.
There was no new-starter regret from the candidates.
Jordan remained engaged post-placement, ensuring onboarding translated into operational performance.
The outcome was not simply three filled seats.
It was:
- A strengthened relationship between two Managing Directors
- A cohesive HealthTech product team
- A recruiter whose reputation in the sector remains intact
He earns more because he mitigates the most expensive risk in business: a bad hire.
A curated HealthTech product squad, delivered through surgical search and long-term stewardship. All three hires were shipping code within three months of starting.
